Patagonia chooses Nanjing for first Jiangsu store
Outdoor brand Patagonia, headquartered in California, has opened its very first retail store in China’s eastern Jiangsu province, home to major cities including Suzhou and Nanjing, plus second-tier cities Changzhou and Xuzhou.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the company elected to build the store in the provincial capital of Nanjing, one of China’s ancient capitals and the country’s main administrative centre as recently as 1949. Today, it is the second-largest city in East China after Shanghai.

Located on the banks of Xuanwu Lake, the new Patagonia store has already played host to community repairs and practical making workshops. More hands-on sessions, along with exhibitions dedicated to rock climbing, skiing, surfing, trail running and fly fishing, are in the works, the brand said on local social media platform Weibo.

Patagonia China began donating 1% of its sales to local environmental non-profits last month, in line with the wider business’ existing 1% for the Planet pledge.
