China: Nike sales soar past $15 million in 60 seconds

04/11/2020

Within one minute of Alibaba’s Tmall opening for the first phase of China’s annual Double 11 – or Singles’ Day – shopping festival at 00:00 on November 1, turnover for sports brand Nike surpassed the ¥100 million (roughly $15 million) mark, local media have reported.

It means Nike is the first sportswear brand to achieve ¥100 million in sales on the platform during Double 11.

This year’s festival is three days' longer than in previous years, due to it being the first large-scale event of its kind to take place in China since the start of covid-19. The first "wave” ran from November 1-3, with the second wave set to begin on November 11, the festival's typical start date.
