WSA’s technical editor to chair Performance Days biotech talk
The latest digital edition of Performance Days functional fabric fair went live for the first of five days of virtual exhibitions and discussion on May 17.
As with previous editions of the typically Munich-based event, WSA technical editor, Sophie Bramel (pictured), is set to moderate a high-level panel discussion on a hot topic for the textile industry. This year, Ms Bramel will be chairing the talk ‘Textiles in the age of biotech’ at 2.30pm CEST on May 19.
In discussing synthetic biology’s promise of new fibres and chemicals for textiles, the livestreamed talk will aim to cover the perceived efficiency (and readiness for market) of algae-, enzyme- or bacteria-based processes, as well as which parts of the supply chain are particularly ripe for biotech’s disruption.
The panel’s lineup of speakers includes Oliver Shafaat (manager of fibre research and development at Spiber), Dr Orr Yarkoni (CEO and founder at Colorfix), Matthias Foessel (CEO and founder, Beyond Surface Technologies), Scott Fulbright (CEO and co-founder, Living Ink) and Tessa Callaghan (CEO and co-founder at Algiknit).
Performance Days exhibitors include Brrr, Huntsman Textile Effects, HD Wool Apparel Insulation, Freudenberg Performance Materials Apparel, Devan Chemicals, Heiq, Lenzing, Rudolf Group and Unifi.
