Nano-metallic coating boosts warmth while reducing weight
LifeLabs, a material science company founded in a Stanford University laboratory, has been awarded the Best Product Award in ISPO’s Fall/Winter Textrends for its AI-CLO System WarmLife Merino Wool Insulated Fill in the membranes and coatings category.
The AI-CLO System is designed to regulate body temperature using two patented technologies, WarmLife and CoolLife.
WarmLife is created from 97% recycled and bio content and uses a nano-metallic coating that reflects radiant body heat back into the wearer’s skin. The company claims it is 30% lighter and uses 30% less material than comparable items of similar warmth. In addition to being used in a non-woven insulation blended with merino wool, WarmLife can also be used as a laminated textile.
WarmLife and CoolLife, a blend of nylon and polyethylene, were developed over three years by Professor Yi Cui, director of Stanford University’s Advanced Materials Laboratory. He and Sophia Ou, founder of the Functional Textile Supply Chain Alliance, set up China-based LifeLabs&YiLab.
Seven AI-CLO system products from LifeLabs received ISPO awards across three categories.
Ms Ou said: “Through the years, ISPO Awards have been bestowed upon designs that have altered the course of product development in the outdoor industry. We are honoured to have our WarmLife technology named Best Product in the membranes and coatings category and to see so many of our products receive awards from the ISPO jury.”
