Jabil and partners develop textile-based heart monitoring system

Finland-based Clothing+ and its owner, electronic solutions company Jabil Circuit, have unveiled a smart garment design with an integrated heart rate monitoring system.

Partnering Suunto, a manufacturer of heart rate monitors, and Firstbeat, a provider of physiological analytics for sports, the companies have say their “unique” system offers consumers a custom solution.

“Building an integrated textile Heart Rate Monitoring solution today requires very different competencies and capabilities, which often turn into a guessing game between multiple vendors trying to piece it all together,” said John Dargan, Jabil's vice-president.

Jabil has set up a research and development lab near its Florida headquarters to enable Clothing+ researchers to build on their e-textile work.

Clothing+ has worked with adidas, Garmin, Salomon and Philips on smart textiles.
