European textile industry to boost competitiveness

20/04/2016
The European Apparel and Textile Confederation (Euratex) says that the European textile and clothing sector is to seek to boost competitiveness through the Europeans Union regional Smart Specialisation Strategies and by strengthening the relationships between regional innovation clusters.

The strategy was discussed during the public launch of RegioTex from April 13 to 14, where over 100 participants from 23 regions across 19 EU countries attended the launch of the initiative in Brussels. The event was co-organised by the European Technology Platform for the Future of Textiles and Clothing (Textile ETP) and Euratex, and formed part of the 11th annual public conference of the Textile ETP.

Six key European textile and clothing industry regions (Catalunya and Valencia, Spain; Nord-Pas de Calais, France, Norte Portugal, Nord-Est Romania and West-Vlaanderen, Belgium) have so far been the driving force behind RegioTex, which began its preparatory phase in mid-2015, but there are ten further regions in the process of becoming RegioTex affiliates.
