European textile companies are becoming more innovative, says EURATEX

The message from the EURATEX (European Apparel and Textile Association) convention held during ITMA trade show in Milan was one of positivity about the state of the European textile industry.

EURATEX president Serge Piolat said: “To remain competitive, European companies have to be highly innovative in their products and processes. Sustainable production becomes an integral part of the companies’ business strategy”.

During the afternoon panel, Christian Wieth spoke about Novozymes’s enzyme solutions that allow clothes to look new for longer by reducing water and energy usage and replacing harsh chemicals, according to the company.

Jan Laperre from Centexbel technology said European companies are being innovative by using biopolymers, natural fibres and new solutions for recycling.

Stefan Schmidt from IVGT highlighted the results of the SET project, aimed at helping SMEs improve their energy efficiency and cut production costs.
