Chelsea to end adidas kit deal early

12/05/2016
English Premier League side Chelsea will pay an undisclosed sum to end its kit sponsorship deal with sportswear manufacturer adidas earlier than planned.

The £300 million deal was due to run until 2023 but will now end after the 2016/2017 season to allow Chelsea to seek sponsorship elsewhere. The German company said that the decision to end their partnership was mutual.

Chelsea and adidas signed the 10-year deal in June 2013. At the time it was the biggest shirt deal in Premier League history but that record has since been overtaken by the £75 million-per-year deal that the company signed with Manchester United in 2014. Real Madrid’s £1 billion ten-year deal far exceeds either of these agreements.
