Adidas unveils first shoe produced in Speedfactory

Sportswear manufacturer adidas has unveiled its Futurecraft MFG (Made for Germany) sneaker, the first shoe produced at its Speedfactory production facility in Ansbach, Germany.

The facility, which is nearly entirely operated by robots, began operations earlier this year. Large-scale production is expected to get underway in 2017. Adidas recently announced plans to open a second Speedfactory in Atlanta, US,

The Futurecraft MFG uses adidas’s Boost technology, which offers increased energy return when running. It also features a Primeknight upper, designed to improve comfort. A new torsion bar in the outsole offers greater flexibility.

The design process was helped by adidas’ Aramis motion capture technology, which allowed the company to examine how the foot moves when running,

The sneaker will be added to the adidas Running line and is to be sold exclusively in Germany. Adidas plans to launch shoes made in its Speedfactory in other categories and in more markets.

James Carnes, adidas vice president of strategy creation, said the launch of the shoe was a “defining moment for the industry”.
