Teijin Group to explore the future of humanity

21/06/2018
High-performance fibre manufacturer Teijin Limited commemorated the 100th anniversary of its establishment as a company on June 17.

It was founded in 1918 as a rayon manufacturer and has since expanded to a range of areas including performance materials, pharmaceuticals and healthcare equipment.

As it celebrates 100 years in existence, the company has chosen to look towards the next century of its business and has unveiled a new global message: “Toward the world we all desire: Future Navigation”.

Under this mantra, Teijin will focus on improving the quality of life for future humanity. To achieve this goal, the company has pledged to “break through its passive attitude of providing solutions to existing issues”. Instead, it has said it will explore chemistry beyond materials and products in order to serve as a “proactive force”.

Teijin also announced the launch of the ‘Think Human Project’, which will see it carry out nine individual research programmes to create solutions in anticipation of future human needs. Each project team, made up of Teijin employees from around the world, will focus on one particular theme.

The nine themes are: environment, aging, sensitivity, clothing, humanness, mobility, super-aged society, living space and food.

Teijin expects to release progress reports about these projects later this year.
