Teijin Frontier develops new water-repellent fabric

The company says it expects sales of the fabric to rise to approximately $20 million by March 2019.
Minotech is inspired by the design of straw raincoats used in ancient Japan. Teijin says it combines the usefulness of umbrella-quality fabric, the practicality of high-function wear and the attractiveness of a fashionable material.
The material’s micro-garter structure creates tiny convex bulges on the fabric that enable raindrops to slip off the surface. It has high moisture permeability due to its non-laminated structure, allowing sweat vapour to escape so the inner surface remains dry.
