Pangaia progresses with creora bio-based elastane

A new capsule of seamless, sports-ready apparel from materials science brand Pangaia is its “most bio-based offering to date”, according to the company.

The collection, called Motion, is 70% castor oil-derived due to use of Fulgar’s 99.99% plant-based Evo nylon, with the remaining 30% provided by Hyosung’s own creora bio-based elastane, which is partly corn-based. The garments have all been designed for a second skin feel and gentle compression, according to Hyosung.

Pangaia first introduced the SGS-certified “eco” stretch fibre via its Activewear 3.0 range last autumn. At that time, the fabric composition was 92-97% Evo fibre and between 3% and 8% creora bio-based, respectively.

Motion offers new styles for men, as well as more colourways for women. It includes mesh t-shirts, long-sleeved zip tops and exercise tights for men in either grey or black, in addition to sports bra, tank top, t-shirt, shorts and legging designs for women in new taupe and cobalt blue hues.

European marketing manager, Claire O’Neill, said Hyosung expects to continue its collaboration “with such an innovative and passionate brand” as Pangaia, “whose aim is to give back to the planet more than it takes”, in the future. Third-party life-cycle assessment suggests its creora bio-based, now also available in black, has a 20% lower carbon footprint than conventional elastane.

Select pieces will be displayed at Hyosung's booth (#30097) at Outdoor Retailer in Salt Lake City over June 19-21.
