Fresh blends for denim from Invista and Lenzing

Invista and Lenzing are pairing up again at the upcoming denim shows to launch a Coolmax/Tencel blend, starting at Denim by Première Vision in Barcelona from November 20.

The two companies collaborated for denim in 2013, combining dualFX with Tencel, after a study revealed mills were facing challenges developing stretch cellulosic fabric. “As mills began experimenting, they encountered issues such as growth, fabrics not keeping their shape and fabric puckering due to seam slippage,” said Invista’s denim account manager for Southern Europe, Federica Albier.

Jean Hegedus, director of marketing for denim at Invista, said new studies confirmed women want their clothes to be more efficient with more aesthetic qualities, such as a soft touch. “Coolmax fabrics mixed with Tencel meet these requirements, while providing a sustainable solution to consumers."

Coolmax EcoMade fibre contains 97% recycled polyester while Lenzing’s Tencel is made from wood pulp, which is converted through a closed-loop system.

Michael Kininmonth, development officer at Lenzing denim, added: "With Tencel Coolmax fabric, we can offer additional performances that appeal to today's consumers."
