Woolmark Company makes microplastic point on World Water Day

The Woolmark Company, the promotions body for Australian wool, marked World Water Day on March 22 by highlighting the impact of clothing made from synthetic fibres on microplastic pollution.

It said: “A staggering 35% of microplastics in the world’s waterways are fibres shed from synthetic clothing, like those made from polyester.”

It said that, as a naturally biodegradable fibre, wool offers “a less impactful solution to the microplastic crisis”.
